Fox2News interviewed Sue Cox regarding Missouri State Employee Pay. The interview was broadcast and posted on the web.
Talking Points from the article are listed below:
- ARMSE is the only statewide association representing active and retired employees of the state through advocacy, education and outreach
- We applaud the efforts of Gov. Mike Parson and his administration to improve the lives of state workers, specifically:
- The 8.7% COLA for state employees approved earlier this year
- The shift pay differential for overnight workers in state nursing homes and long term care facilities
- We continue to encourage Gov. Parson and his administration to seek innovative ways to recruit and retain talent to the state, while also looking to reduce barriers to employment
- The General Assembly passed and Gov. Parson signed HB417 which removes an obsolete requirement for applicants certain state positions to have a 4 year degree when other credentials or professional experience are sufficient
- Additional investments are needed – continuing COLA, flexible work models, and education opportunities through community college system and colleges/universities are a good start
- Incentivizing state employees to recruit their family / friends to state employment is a unique approach but we’d also like to see recognition for existing talent – ie compensation for reaching certain benchmarks in state employment
- State employees are overwhelmingly dedicated to providing good customer service and ensuring the business of Missouri state government runs smoothly; they should be compensated as such
- The state is hosting several career recruitment events throughout the state, including one on November 9 from 2-6pm at the Marriott West in St. Louis County. The state uses #HireMOTalent to promote recruitment efforts on social media.
- If you are not yet a member of ARMSE and want to help promote state employment and advocate for improved benefits, join us!
